March Spotlight Blog for Young Siblings
We know that siblings of brothers and sisters with a disability can have their own needs too. Some siblings have shared with us that they are neurodivergent.
Neurodivergent is a big word that means someone’s brain works differently.
Neurodiversity is the idea that different brains are a normal part of life and bring different strengths. It can include learning and thinking differences like Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and Dyspraxia.
Knowing about these differences can help children understand themselves better and get the help they might need. Sometimes, having your own needs and a brother or sister with a disability can feel tricky. You might feel left out, angry, or lonely. Remember, these are normal feelings and there are ways to get help.
How we can help at Sibs:
- Look at our conditions list to learn about different needs: Disabilities Archive – Sibs
- Email a sibling advisor through the website: Ask a sibling advisor – Sibs
- Look at our book list which includes information and stories about Autism, ADHD, and more: Top tips for supporting your sibling child – Sibs
Neurodiversity Week (17th – 23rd March 2026) is a special time to learn about neurodiversity, celebrate different strengths, and show that everyone can achieve great things.
