I'm worried about my sister's future

You are not the only sibling to feel worried about things for your brother or sister in the future. Siblings worry about where their disabled brothers and sisters will live, who will look after them, and what they will do when they leave school. Some siblings also worry about their brother or sister’s health and if they will get better. Thinking about these things can be difficult for siblings.

Some things you can do if you are worried about the future

1

Write down all the things you have been thinking about that might happen in the future.  Show this list to your parent and ask them what they think will happen.

2

Ask someone who helps your disabled brother or sister to tell you about the type of things they might be able to do when they are older.

3

Ask your parent about their plans for who will look after your brother or sister in the future and where they will live.

4

Share your feelings about the future with other siblings on YoungSibs chat.

I showed my parent the list of questions I had. It was quite hard at first but we sat down and talked about the future together. I still feel a bit worried but at least I have a few more answers now.
