Siblings everywhere are affected. Sibs has gratefully received funding from the Coronavirus Community Support Fund, distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund, to support adult siblings at this time. Thanks to the Government for making this possible. Join one of our online support sessions, meet other siblings and know that you are not alone in what you’re going through.

What’s happening and when?

We’re hosting one-hour support sessions for adult siblings via Zoom. These are a chance for you to meet other siblings, we’ll talk around the topic, you can ask us questions and you can share your experiences and tips with others too:

  • SESSION COMPLETED: Shielding. An open space for siblings to talk about anything relating to shielding. How have things been for you? How are you feeling about it? Monday 14th September, 7pm – 8pm
  • SESSION COMPLETED: Being a sibling carer. Whether you’re a long-standing carer or lockdown has been your first experience of caring for your brother or sister, this is a chance to meet others in the same boat and share the highs and lows. Monday 21st September, 12pm – 1pm
  • SESSION COMPLETED: Coping with stress and anxiety. Many siblings are struggling with stress at the moment – you’re not alone. Tell us how things have been for you. Monday 28th September, 12pm – 1pm
  • SESSION COMPLETED: Worries about the future. The pandemic has brought these worries much closer to home for many, and it can be a daunting topic to face. Let us help you break it down. Monday 5th October, 7pm – 8pm
  • SESSION COMPLETED: Let’s talk about parents. Talking to a parent can be tough at the best of times, but for many siblings the relationship may have become more strained. This session will look at strategies resolve this. Monday 2nd November, 7pm – 8pm
  • SESSIONS COMPLETED: Mindfulness. Sibs has teamed up with former GP and qualified mindfulness practitioner Claire Garthwaite to offer this session. All siblings welcome, whether you have tried mindfulness before or you’re completely new to it. Tuesday 15th September, 5pm – 6pm and Tuesday 3rd November, 2pm – 3pm
  • SESSION COMPLETED: Put yourself first. We’ll talk all things sibling self-care – why it can be hard for siblings to recognise their needs, how we create more time and space for ourselves, what we want for our own futures. Monday 23rd November, 7pm – 8pm

Who can sign up?

These sessions are just for adult siblings who have grown up with a disabled brother or sister. A sibling-only environment helps siblings to feel comfortable sharing the highs and lows of sibling life. No parents, partners, brothers/sisters, researchers or professionals will be admitted.

What are the sessions like?

Friendly and informal!

It’s strange meeting people for the first time over a video call. It’s not the same as meeting face to face and it’s not for everyone. We understand this, and we want to make all siblings feel as welcome as possible.

We don’t record the sessions or take screenshots. You don’t need to bring or prepare anything. Just sit yourself down in a quiet room with a cuppa, close the door, and have the chance to say hello to other siblings like you.

What can I expect?

  • A friendly hello from us at Sibs!
  • The chance to meet and say hello to other siblings like you – everyone will have their video on
  • Sibling to sibling peer support. Share your experiences, offer your tips and learn from others as we chat around the topic
  • A confidential, sibling-only environment – no recording or screenshots, no parents or professionals
