My house

Purpose
To discuss the needs of the disabled child, and the adaptations, professionals or house rules that help. Siblings will start to understand professional roles.

You will need

  • Large sheets of paper, pens
  • Information about different conditions relevant to the siblings' brothers and sisters.

How to do it

Siblings draw an outline of their house on a large sheet of paper. They then draw in and discuss the equipment, furniture, etc. that they have in each room and what they do there.

Ask them who else comes to the house to help. If siblings do not know the professional's title workers, then ask what they do and then explain the different roles.

Ask them if things have to be done in a certain way in different rooms.

During this activity you can answer any specific questions about conditions.

Works best in small groups with two or three children and one leader.
