Sibling group picture

Purpose
Siblings identify issues about their brother or sister that they are unclear about - conditions, behaviours, family responses, professionals etc

Sibling workers then offer information to develop sibling understanding.

You will need

Large sheets of paper - wallpaper is ideal, pens articles, information about conditions (internet articles, Contact a Family directory, books, leaflets etc)

How to do it

Siblings draw around each other's body shapes with washable pens on big sheets of paper. Each sibling then writes or draws on the shape they have drawn and describes their disabled brother or sister's needs or conditions.

Workers then lead into a discussion on their specific needs, feeding in the information they have. Workers will need to do a bit of preparation in advance to make best use of this activity.

Variations

Invite a knowledgeable guest professional in to help the workers, for example a learning disability nurse.
