Session 1 Getting to know you

Purpose: Siblings meet with their peers for the first time, their identity as siblings is acknowledged and they begin to explore who they are.

15	Warm up game. It is likely that everyone will arrive at different times and some siblings will be late. Everyone is likely to be nervous thus plan a name game activity that can easily be joined when people arrive.	Name badge materials

15	Welcomes Sit everyone in a circle. Group leader and workers should allow plenty of opportunities for the siblings to interrupt and ask questions. Workers need to cover housekeeping and the purpose of the group	Staff prompt list
15	Groundrules. In a circle, draw up the ground rules for the ten weeks. Keep it to no longer than 15 minutes to maintain interest	Groundrules sheet Large paper and pens
