Recording
There are three aspects to recording for sibling group leaders.
Recording of the group process
- Helps to keep a check on how the group is progressing
- Workers can respond to issues by changing any planned activities to address them
- Helps with planning the next group
Recording of sibling progress
- You may have an agency policy about this to follow
- Highlights concerns/safeguarding issues
- Shows how siblings are progressing/ benefitting from the group
- Facilitates developing the group according to individual needs.
- If you are hoping to have reunions, staff in a year or two may have changed, so will need some information.
Evaluation
- Provide an assessment of how each sibling has progressed during the course of the group
- Provide a report for funders and service providers on how far the group has met its outcomes.
Recording tips
- When planning a group be clear about the information that you will be recording
- Involve the siblings, get their views and comments
- Recording should be done following each session – if left till after the next session you may not be able to remember specific details.
- Develop a policy regarding the safe storage of information and access to the records. This is personal information and should be handled with care.
