Let siblings know you think about them

We all like to know others are thinking about us even when they are not with us. Siblings in particular really need to know that their parents think about them a lot. They already know you think a lot about their brother or sister with special needs. What can you do to let your child know you have been thinking about him/her when they've been at school or had to have a hospital stay.

Try these

  • Write some nice thoughts you've had about your child and give it to him or her after school
  • Just say that you've been thinking about him or her.
  • Bring something back specially for him or her when you've been away – does not need to be a present – it can be some leaves or junk to make a picture or build with; something from the newspaper you think he or she may be interested in; keeping over a piece of cake from when your friends have been round.
  • If you have to stay in hospital with your other child, make a short phone call, send a postcard or a letter.
