Getting help with anxiety or depression
Childhood experiences of lack of control, fear, isolation, unexpressed anger or grief, combined with a pre-disposition to either of these, can lead to anxiety or depression in adult siblings. We recommend that you read the following information produced by SANE if you think you are suffering from depression or persistent anxiety. They list the various treatments available to you and where you can get help. You can also go to your GP and ask for help.

If you attend counselling, make sure to share your experiences of being a sibling, as many people find that by being able to share their feelings openly for the first time, they are able to release some of the anger, sadness and pain that they may have held onto since childhood.
